A high-profile project bridging computation, climate crisis, and cosmology comes to life at Palazzo Diedo with the contribution of Costa Interiors.

A Custom-Made Exhibition for a Global Vision

From May 10 to November 23, 2025, The Next Earth: Computation, Crisis, Cosmology will be hosted at Palazzo Diedo as an official collateral event of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia.
Curated by Benjamin Bratton, Nicholas de Monchaux, and Ana Miljacki, the exhibition is promoted by Berggruen Arts & Culture.

The exhibition merges two major international research trajectories:

• The Noocene: Computation and Cosmology from Antikythera to AI, developed by Antikythera,
• Climate Work: Un/Worlding the Planet, led by MIT Architecture.

Within this visionary framework, Costa Interiors was selected to design and craft bespoke counters and display cases—essential components that physically and conceptually support the exhibition’s narrative.

The Noocene: From Ancient Computation to Artificial Intelligence

Antikythera and Computational Cosmology

At the core of Antikythera’s section is the concept of the Noocene—a new era in which thought emerges from matter and reshapes the Earth into a cognitive megastructure. The exhibit draws a striking parallel between the Antikythera mechanism (ca. 200 B.C.)—one of the earliest known astronomical calculators—and today’s artificial intelligences, described as “fire monkeys teaching rocks to think.”

Climate Work: Architecture and the Climate Emergency

MIT Architecture and the Future of Building

The section curated by MIT Architecture showcases 37 ongoing research projects that explore architecture’s role in redefining our relationship with the planet. Themes include decarbonization, material supply chains, and regenerative construction methods.

Here, Costa Interiors’ exhibition furniture provides structural and aesthetic clarity, designed to elevate the content without overpowering it—an essential balance in scientific and architectural communication.

Costa Interiors: Craftsmanship Serving Cultural Vision

Led by Pietro Lunetta, designer and producer for Palazzo Diedo, Costa Interiors delivered a project of high complexity that required not only technical expertise, but also cultural sensitivity and the ability to collaborate with global curators and institutions.

Among the unique features of this handcrafted design is a display element made of wood, upholstered in leather, with a plexiglass case and integrated museum-style spotlights. Next to it, two matching wooden benches, also upholstered in leather, complete the parallelepiped-shaped composition, echoing the aesthetic of the objects on display in this exhibition.

With The Next Earth, Costa Interiors reaffirms its commitment to contemporary art, cultural architecture, and high-profile international exhibitions, using tailor-made design as a medium for engaging with critical global themes.
